$1.7 Billion Contract Awarded for Melbourne’s Suburban Rail Loop

The Terra Verde joint venture, led by Webuild, has signed a 1.7 billion AUD contract to design and build part of a suburban rail loop in Melbourne, Australia.

The scope of this Tunnels North contract covers two parallel tunnels, each nearly 10 kilometres long as part of the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East project.

Webuild holds a 33.5% stake in the joint venture, partnering with GS E&C of South Korea and Bouygues Construction Australia.

The two parallel tunnels will connect the future stations of Box Hill and Glen Waverley. In addition, the project will involve creating 39 cross passages, two station boxes, two tunnel access shafts, and an intervention and ventilation shaft.

This section will form part of the 90-kilometre SRL network, which is set to provide greater public transport options in Melbourne. The first phase, SRL East, is currently under construction, with tunnelling is scheduled to begin in 2026 and services starting in 2035.
