Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is nearing completion on its Silver Line project, a 26-mile regional rail service that will connect East Plano to DFW Airport’s Terminal B.
Construction is approximately 85% complete, and passenger service is expected to launch between late 2025 and early 2026.

The Silver Line will traverse seven cities—Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Dallas, Grapevine, Plano, and Richardson—spanning three counties and adding 10 new stations to the existing DART network.
The project is a significant enhancement to regional transit, offering seamless connections between key urban and suburban areas and improving access to DFW Airport.
To streamline construction and testing, the Silver Line has been divided into three segments:
- Segment C (Plano to Richardson): Construction was largely completed in late 2024, allowing vehicle testing to begin in the area
- Segment A (DFW Airport to Carrollton): Testing is set to commence by the end of January 2025, focusing on train performance, track reliability, and signal systems
- Segment B (North Dallas): This segment, which required extensive construction, including the closure of Hillcrest Road in early 2024, will begin testing later this year
Full end-to-end testing of the entire Silver Line is scheduled for summer 2025, following the completion of major construction in all segments. DART is collaborating with cities and school districts to raise public awareness of increased train activity during the testing phase.
Significant progress has been made on supporting infrastructure:
Plano: Construction of the new 40,000-square-foot Equipment Maintenance Facility is advancing steadily. Located near the Shiloh Road Station, the facility will house the Silver Line’s operations and administrative teams.
Carrollton: DART is building an elevator tower to connect the new Silver Line station with the Green Line’s aerial platform at Downtown Carrollton Station. Weather-related delays have affected progress, but work is expected to resume shortly.
Richardson: A nearly mile-long bridge spanning US-75 will feature aesthetic arches to enhance the appearance of the CityLine development station. The arches are slated for installation in 2026.
Once complete, the Silver Line will improve regional transit integration by linking with other services:
- Denton County Transit Authority (DCTA) plans to extend service to Downtown Carrollton, providing Silver Line passengers access to Denton via the A-train.
- Trinity Metro’s TEXRail at DFW Airport North Station will enable connections to Downtown Fort Worth.
These integrations will improve mobility across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, offering a more connected and convenient transit experience.
