A new, 50-tonne pedestrian footbridge has been installed at Darlington station in County Durham.
The new footbridge, which is part of a 140 million GBP transport hub transformation project for the station, was installed in two-parts over the course of the weekend of 21 February, and is set to receive a third section before the end of April, marking its completion.
The step-free bridge links Darlington station with both new platforms 5 and 6, as well as the eastern concourse building.
In order to install the structure, a hole was created in the station’s roof to allow the bridge to be inserted into place within the site itself.
With a completion date of December 2025, Network Rail, alongside its partners, are set to provide 98 million GBP worth of rail enhancements to the station’s infrastructure, including upgrades to the eastern concourse building and track, points & signalling system, as well as a set of new platforms.
