Etihad Rail has officially announced a high-speed train project connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
This project aims to enhance the UAE’s transportation infrastructure in line with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy. It is expected to significantly improve connectivity between the two emirates, reducing travel times and fostering socioeconomic development.

The high-speed train service will reduce travel times between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to just 30 minutes at speeds of up to 350 km/h. Meanwhile, it is expected to contribute 145 billion AED to the UAE’s GDP over the next 50 years.
The project was announced during a ceremony organised by Etihad Rail at Al Faya Depot with the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
Etihad Rail will oversee the development and operation of the high-speed train, building on its achievements in the national railway sector.
A Cooperation Charter has been signed between the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and the Dubai Executive Council to ensure smooth execution and collaboration. Tenders have also been issued for contracts, while designs have been approved for the rail network.
In addition to announcing the high-speed train project, the UAE has unveiled its first passenger train fleet. Designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, the trains aim to provide a safe and efficient travel option, complementing the high-speed service by connecting urban and regional routes across the UAE.
The ceremony also marked the announcement of the first four passenger rail stations, located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. These stations will integrate with metro and bus networks, featuring modern facilities such as business-class lounges, retail outlets, and family-friendly amenities.
