SYSTRA has been awarded a Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) services contract for Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, which is currently underway in the Indian state of Gujarat.
The win builds on SYSRA’s previous delivery of the original Phase 2 design for the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRCL), and marks a new milestone in the two companies’ partnership to support Ahmedabad’s evolving metro network.

Delivery will take the form of two strategic extensions:
- Phase-2A – The Airport Link project, a four-station, 5.11km elevated corridor connecting Koteshwar Road and SVP International Airport which is hoped to make airport access easier, faster and more reliable
- Phase-2B – GIFT City Expansion, a 3.3km elevated metro extension with three stations which will support the continued growth of GIFT City, a smart city and financial hub
The metro project, which is also referred to as MEGA, was initially announced in the form of an initiative to extend the city’s rail network to Gandhinagar by way of a 22.8km main line from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir, as well as the aforementioned 5.4km branch line to GIFT City.
With the final Gandhinagar section having been officially inaugurated in January 2026, the initial Phase 2 scope is now fully operational.
