Sound Transit has officially opened the Downtown Redmond extension of its Link light rail system in Washington state.
The 3.4-mile extension adds two new stations—Marymoor Village and Downtown Redmond—to the growing network. The project also includes a 1,400-space parking facility at Marymoor Village.
This extension forms part of the agency’s 2 Line and is the first light rail segment completed under the Sound Transit 3 (ST3) ballot measure, which was approved by voters in 2016.

The Downtown Redmond extension is the fourth light rail expansion delivered by Sound Transit in the last 18 months.
Previous openings included the Lynnwood Link extension in August 2024, which brought light rail to Snohomish County, and the initial section of the 2 Line between South Bellevue and Redmond Technology Station in April 2024.
In addition, the T Line to Hilltop began service in September 2023. Two further extensions are expected to open within the next year, including the final portion of the 2 Line and an extension of the 1 Line to Federal Way.
Snohomish County Executive and Sound Transit Board Chair Dave Somers said:With the opening of Downtown Redmond Link, Sound Transit now operates 46 miles of light rail across all three counties we serve. This system creates more connections and economic opportunities for people who live, work in, and visit our region.
The Downtown Redmond Link extension was delivered by the Stacy Witbeck/Kuney joint venture. Design responsibilities were led by Jacobs and Hatch, while Hensel Phelps constructed the station buildings and parking structure.
Mass Electric and Modern Rail Systems handled the rail systems, including traction power, signalling, communications, and overhead power infrastructure.
The project was completed on schedule and within its allocated budget of 1.5 billion USD.
