Siemens Mobility has received type authorisation for the latest upgrade of its interoperable Eurosprinter locomotives, ES64F4, to the European Train Control System (ETCS) Baseline 3.4.

Authorisation has been given by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), with the locomotives now fully equipped with Atlas ETCS.

The approval marks a major milestone in securing the long-term deployment of the locomotive fleet on key European freight corridors

Having been awarded the project in December 2020; prototype conversions were completed at Siemens Mobility’s Allach plant after 16 months. The full application for type authorisation was subsequently submitted, as planned, to the ERA in December 2024.
