Siemens Mobility, working as part of a consortium with Aarsleff Rail, has announced the successful completion of the full delivery of the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail project.
Passengers now have full access to the 28-kilometre route, which connects Ishøj in the south to Lundtofte, north of Lyngby, via 29 state-of-the-art stations along Ring 3.

Greater Copenhagen Light Rail is a major new cross-regional public transport connection that aims to strengthen mobility across the Copenhagen metropolitan area, linking cities, workplaces, hospitals, educational institutions, and key public transport hubs.
For its part, Siemens Mobility contributed a range of turnkey solutions, including 29 Avenio light rail vehicles, electrification, signalling, communication systems, depot workshop equipment, project management, system integration, and will provide 15 years of maintenance services.
Once fully operational, the line, which will provide services at speeds of up to 70 km/h, is expected to facilitate green transportation for roughly 12,000 passengers each day, with an annual ridership forecast of around 14 million by 2030.

Utilising 29 Siemens Avenio light rail vehicles; the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail project has been delivered through collaboration between Siemens Mobility, Aarsleff Rail, and Greater Copenhagen Light Rail themselves. The project received a soft launch in October 2025 with the opening of the first 12 stations, and now the remaining 17 stations connect a set of eight municipalities whilst integrating into six S-train interchanges.
Light rail vehicles run every 5-8 minutes during peak daytime hours during a transition period of 3-6 months, and every ten minutes in the evenings and on Sundays.
Siemens’ Avenio light rail vehicles have been specifically designed for Copenhagen’s future-focused transport requirements, and measure in at 36.9 metres in length whilst accommodating up to 260 passengers – including 64 seated.
