Mitsubishi Electric Awarded Contract by CAF to Supply Traction System for New EMUs

Mitsubishi Electric have been awarded a contract by CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A.), to supply high tech traction equipment for 118 New Generation Sprinter (SNG) EMUs for Dutch Railways (NS).

The project, in partnership with the Italian Branch of Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V, was awarded due to Mitsubishi Electrics proven record of reliable traction equipment. The new trains are to replace the existingType SGMm 2 and 3 car Sprinter EMUs and the last remaining sets of Type Mat 64. The traction system is due to be delivered starting from 2016.

The contract awarded, by CAF, includes the supply of the Traction Inverters and other systems related to traction. High-efficiency, regenerative braking performance and downsized equipment will contribute to energy saving.
