InnoTrans IN PICTURES: Hyundai Rotem’s Hydrogen Tram

At InnoTrans 2024, Hyundai Rotem is showcasing its hydrogen fuel cell tram for the city of Daejeon in the Republic of Korea.

Daejeon Municipality has ordered 34 of these vehicles to be delivered by mid-2028.

The trams have a max design speed of 70 km/h and can each carry up to 305 passengers.

The trams feature space for small bags, such as grocery items; digital travel information screens; and dedicated wheelcahir areas.

The vehicle was developed through a national research and development project launched in 2021 by Hyundai Rotem, Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Korea Railroad Research Institute and Ulsan Tecnopark.

The tram is powered by four fuel cells and six hydrogen tanks and offers a range of 200 kilometres on each refuelling.

The units feature a driver’s cabin on each end for bidirectional operations.
