Infotec Achieves Latest ISO Quality Assurance

Passenger information systems supplier Infotec has achieved certification to ISO 9001:2015 through Lloyd’s Register of Quality Assurance and accredited by UKAS. It is among the first rail industry suppliers to have achieved such certification. The standards were revised in September 2015, giving certified companies until September 2018 to migrate to the updated version. Infotec is among the first companies in the rail industry to have adopted this version of the standards.

The procedure to become certified involved a four-day re-certification surveillance at Infotec’s headquarters in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. The surveillance was undertaken by Lloyd’s Register of Quality Assurance in June 2016. The observation included the successful transition of the previous quality management system over to the revised version.

David Derrick, Lloyd’s Register of Quality Assurance’s UK and Ireland Area Operations Manager, said:

“This is an outstanding result and Infotec have to be commended on their determination and focus to be an early adopter of the standard. ISO 9001:2015 has enhanced Infotec’s quality management system and they now have a robust, practical approach capable of managing identified risks and responsibilities, but, more importantly, an approach that is now tailored to meet their customer, stakeholder and business objectives.”

Infotec has revised standards in certain areas to meet the revised and, in some cases, more specific requirements. These include the requirement for more emphasis on top management’s engagement with ISO 9001, the identification of interested parties and context of the organisation, risk-based thinking, managing change, organisational knowledge and performance evaluation.

Tim Court, Infotec Managing Director, said:

“We are very proud to be at the forefront in the transition to ISO 9001: 2015. Quality management and performance are very much part of our culture, at every level, and this is now officially recognised.”

ISO 9001:2015 is the first significant revision of the standards since 2008. Infotec established a formal Quality Management System (QMS), certified to ISO 9001 with an accredited body, in 2007.
