The contract covers the section of track connecting Edirne West and Kapikule East, as well as the segment connecting Kapikule East to Kapikule West.

Kapikule Station serves as the last Turkish station before the Bulgarian border on the corridor between Istanbul and Europe, with the route itself forming part of a broader modernisation plan that includes the installation of a new high-speed double-track line from Istanbul to Edirne.

Hitachi Rail General Manager in Turkey, Bariş Balcilar, said:

With this latest contract, Hitachi Rail continues supporting Turkey's vision of a modern, connected, and secure rail infrastructure integrated with the wider European network.

Elsewhere, Alstom has signed a contract to supply a Rigid Overhead Catenary System (ROCS) on RESA A.Ş’ Halkali-Kapikule high-speed line.
