Hitachi Rail has secured a contract to supply advanced digital signalling systems for railway integration in Valencia, Spain.

This project, led by Adif, aims to enhance the city’s railway infrastructure, specifically focusing on the Access Channel, where the approach tracks to València Nord and València Joaquín Sorolla stations will be modernised.

Additionally, the project will expand and remodel València Joaquín Sorolla station to accommodate rising passenger numbers and increasing rail traffic.

This upgrade is part of a broader railway and urban development initiative in the Valencia region, aligning with Spain’s Mediterranean Corridor goals. The modernisation of signalling systems will improve capacity, safety, and operational efficiency.

Carlos Mezquita, Country Director for Hitachi Rail in Spain said:

The completion of the project will mean major advances on all railway lines, thanks to the so-called 'network effect', which will mean greater comfort for passengers and users. It is essential to highlight the consequent environmental improvement of the areas that will be affected by this transformation.

The contract in Valencia adds to Hitachi Rail’s existing projects with Adif, which includes the deployment of digital signalling technology at Madrid’s Chamartín Clara Campoamor station and on the Madrid-Seville High Speed Line.

These projects incorporate the latest generation of interlocking systems and the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 2, ensuring interoperability, increased safety, and efficiency across Spain’s rail network.
