Hitachi Rail has announced the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysian public transport operator, Prasarana.

Further initiatives under the Understanding include the development of new digital tools for predictive maintenance and operational efficiency, as well as joint R&D collaborations for sustainable railway engineering projects.

Providing new technology for the country since 1998, Hitachi Rail’s SelTrac™ Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system is currently in operation on Malaysia’s Kelana Jaya LRT line, with the company also having upgraded signalling systems for the monoral, Ampang and Kelana Jaya lines. Recently, the company also commissioned its Integrated Control Center (ICC), which controls three major lines, as well as the enhancement of safety systems along the Ampang Line.

Ziad Rizk, Managing Director of the Urban Rail Signalling business at Hitachi Rail, said:

Hitachi Rail is proud to reaffirm its commitment to Malaysia’s strategic goals for skill development and innovation. Our 30-year partnership with Prasarana and deployment of our SelTrac™ technology has been instrumental in enhancing rail operations, and we look forward to elevating Malaysia’s rail industry.

The signing of the MoU falls in line with Hitachi Rail’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s National TVET Policy 2030, which aims to develop future-ready workforces with industry-relevant skills.
