Rail Safety Week

Rail Safety Week is an industry-wide, industry-led initiative focused on rail safety across the United Kingdom. Taking place from 15 to 21 June 2026, the week is organised by Rail Forum and brings together rail industry professionals, community groups and schools under a shared focus on safety awareness and best practice.

About the Event

Now in its established annual format, Rail Safety Week aims to place rail safety at the forefront of conversations across the industry and beyond. The initiative is open to anyone with a connection to the railways, whether working within the sector or travelling on it, and encourages participation from organisations of all sizes. Previous editions have seen close to 250 organisations take part, engaging colleagues in workplaces, communities and educational settings.

The Conference

Rail Safety Week 2026 will open with the Rail Safety Week Conference, which is set to focus on two key themes: lessons learned from previous incidents and managing the wellbeing of staff during periods of major change. The conference will draw on the findings of the Cullen Report and will address the subject of psychological safety, bringing together speakers across a range of topics relevant to those working in and around the rail industry.

Key Themes

Across the week, Rail Safety Week provides a platform for sharing ideas, case studies and examples of safety-focused activity. Recurring areas of focus include workplace engagement, community outreach and safety education in schools. The initiative is designed to encourage ongoing dialogue about safety culture and to highlight the contributions that individual organisations make to rail safety throughout the year.

Getting Involved

Organisations across the rail sector are invited to take part in Rail Safety Week 2026 by running their own activities, events or campaigns during the week. Rail Forum, as custodian of the initiative, provides resources and guidance to support participation at every level, from large industry bodies to smaller operators and suppliers.
