ETCS Business Readiness 2027
ETCS Business Readiness will take place on 10 & 11 March 2027 live in Brussels and online.
The ETCS Business Readiness Congress, organised by Strategy Engineering Research Group, returns to Brussels on 10–11 March 2027 for its annual two-day conference focused on the practical delivery of ERTMS and ETCS across Europe’s rail network.
The event brings together passenger operators, freight operators, infrastructure managers, regulators, and solution providers to address the central challenge facing the industry: ensuring ETCS is operationally workable at scale — technically, economically, and organisationally.
Event Details
- Dates: 10–11 March 2027
- Format: Live in Brussels and online via livestream
- Venue: Radisson Hotel, Brussels
- Organiser: ETCS Business Readiness Community / Strategy Engineering Research Group
Who Should Attend?
The conference is aimed at senior professionals across three key groups:

- Infrastructure managers – overseeing trackside migration, digital interlocking programmes, and corridor delivery
- Solution providers – supplying onboard systems, simulation tools, communications infrastructure, and signalling architecture
Key Themes for 2027
Building on the 2026 conference, discussions are expected to continue across the following areas:
- Retrofit cost structures and lifecycle economics
- Authorisation, testing, and certification burdens — particularly for iterative onboard changes
- Cross-border interoperability and standardisation
- Software-defined and modular onboard architectures
- Driver training, simulation, and workforce readiness
- FRMCS and communications infrastructure readiness
- Freight-specific delivery challenges and funding models
- Governance and programme management at scale
About the 2026 Conference
The 2026 event featured speakers from Infrabel, BLS AG, SNCF, Bane NOR, ProRail, Network Rail, UNIFE, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, Transport for NSW (Australia), and The Signalling Group, among others. Despite a national rail strike in Belgium during the event week, 95% of speakers attended in person — a measure of the industry’s commitment to progressing ERTMS and ETCS programmes.
A full post-conference package from 2026 — including presentation materials, video and audio recordings, full transcriptions, and over 200 strategic recommendations — is available to download via the reports and passes page.
