Europe: Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Slovenske železnice (SŽ) Intensify Cooperation

Slovenian Railways (SŽ) and Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) have signed a letter of intent to explore their options for intensified rail freight cooperation between the two countries.

By establishing a strategic partnership between SŽ and ÖBB in Slovenia, Hungary, Italy and South-East-Europe, it is hoped that service will improve for customers and stakeholders from various industries by reducing travel time, cost and the complicated logistics of moving goods between the rail network, ports and terminals.

Analysis and due diligence will be carried out over the coming months, working with partners and national and EU regulatory bodies. The cooperation may extend to a joint utilisation of assets and a joint enterprise from 2017.
