Worldwide Miniature Lighting Solutions
CML Innovative Technologies, part of the lighting business unit of Grupo Antolin, is one of the largest worldwide suppliers of miniature lighting solutions, having approximately 2,000 employees and an annual turnover in the region of €350m. Together we are a vertically integrated designer, manufacturer and seller of one of the widest selections of miniature lighting systems and components in the world.
LED Rough Service Lamp
To complement its existing range of European railroad approved indicator lamps which incorporate transient voltage protection and failure indication, CML has already developed an LED based replacement for the A19 rough service lamp. This lamp provides significantly increased life and increased brightness whilst being extremely robust. In conjunction with several railroads CML is now working to provide further colour temperature options to suit all requirements.
CML is also working to develop a railroad headlight replacement that utilises industry leading, high-power LED technology. It is anticipated that the proposed solution will exceed FRA requirements for light output whilst offering a power reduction of up to 350W per lamp. With ever-increasing fuel prices, these power reductions can lead to substantial cost savings.
Within the fields of aviation and automotive lighting, CML is a brand leader in the following product areas:

LED Rail Lighting Products
In addition to supplying traditional lighting technologies to customers such as Boeing and Airbus, CML has been at the forefront of the introduction of LEDs with an early developmental highlight being the incorporation of LEDs into stamped metal circuits. Continued innovation has seen light guide technology develop from the dashboard into complex ambient lighting solutions. CML light guides can now be found in almost all of the world’s premium vehicles including, but not limited to, BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, Rolls-Royce and Audi.
CML’s efforts in the automotive sector allows a complete system of rail lighting products to be offered with easy assembly, innovative design, very high quality levels and possibilities for incorporating rail company branding at the forefront of the solution.
Many readers will already be aware that CML provides high quality, high value locomotive halogen sealed-beam ditch and head lights. These products incorporate many of the design features that have made CML sealed-beams successful in the aviation sector.
Innovative Railroad Lighting Solutions
CML is now looking to expand its portfolio by developing additional lighting solutions for the railroad sector. CML’s key strengths to help bring the best technical solution to market include:
- World class R & D and innovation capabilities
- Advanced design software with integrated optical simulation
- Advanced electronics design and thermal simulation capabilities
- In-house laboratory and test facilities
- In-house tooling capabilities with industrialisation (for example, injection moulding and automation)
- Global production facilities
- Automotive standard project management techniques
- Strong links between Technical and Commercial Teams
A successful product has to do more than achieve the required photometric performance. CML’s solutions are routinely tested for vibration and shock resistance, operation over the specified temperature range, resistance to moisture ingress and radio frequency interference. As such, CML is already familiar with relevant industry standards such as AAR standards S-9401, S-5515 etc.
Lighting for Interior and Exterior Applications
As well as being a provider of bespoke solutions, CML already has an existing range of high quality, core technologies that could readily be adapted into solutions for the railroad sector.
With the increase in passenger demands for utilising on-the-move technology, many train operators are now requesting seats fully equipped with a low voltage power supply. With this in mind, CML sees strong possibilities for individual seat-mounted illumination. Its existing optics and switch solutions position CML ideally to support such requirements including reading lights, charging point illumination and aisle lighting.
In addition, the continuing desire to enhance passenger comfort and the travel experience means that lighting is becoming a more import factor when considering the interior design of a carriage. CML’s colour changing light engines and light guides could provide ambient and accent lighting as well as introducing the possibility for operator brand identity.
CML’s miniature lighting modules (many of which are rated to IP68) could also be used to enhance passenger safety in areas such as carriage entrances and stair areas.
CML has a long history of assisting customers, in very demanding markets, to develop lighting solutions, whilst benefiting from the economy of scale of established technology.
Whether your requirements are for interior applications such as seat lighting, cabin lighting, entrance lighting or exterior applications such as sealed beam lamps – CML is the company to talk to.
