Deutsche Bahn (DB) has confirmed reports of a potential new Eurostar connection between Germany and London.
A DB spokesperson has confirmed that there are ongoing discussions regarding the possibility of such a service, which the company has stated would be ‘challenging from a technical, operational, and legal perspective’.
The company has also stated that in order for the potential project to be fully considered, several key requirements must be met in advance.
Currently, passengers travelling from Germany are able to access London via six daily transfers via Brussels between the ICE service from Frankfurt/Cologne and the Eurostar to London.
A DB spokesperson said:We are currently in talks with Eurostar about a direct connection from Germany to London. Together, we want to bring Germany and Great Britain even closer together by rail. We are convinced of the great potential of a direct connection. We would like to expand our existing sales cooperation with Eurostar and therefore welcome the procurement of new trains by Eurostar.
