Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced the nationwide deployment of new mobile teams of technicians tasked with repairing damage at train stations directly on site.

The move is hoped to accelerate repairs at train stations both now and in the future, resulting in cleaner and overall safer experiences for passengers across Germany.

Mobile teams will travel to specific stations to carry out all necessary work, allowing workers to not only fix minor defects but carry out more extensive repairs, improving the overall condition of train stations around the country, especially those in more rural areas.

Katja Hüske, Board Member for Passenger Stations at DB InfraGO AG, said:

Our train stations are our calling card.

With the new mobile teams, small and large repairs such as damaged glass panes, graffiti or defective equipment can be bundled and carried out quickly in the future.

In total, around 200 new employees will make up the maintenance teams, which will be stationed at 44 locations across Germany, with each team covering its own respective region in order to complement DB’s existing structure of approximately 400 station and building inspectors.

The concept, which forms part of DB’s immediate action programme for greater safety and cleanliness at train stations, was previously tested in a pilot project in Lower Saxony, with recruitment set to be completed in the near future.

In total, the operator has confirmed the initiative will cost an extra 50 million EUR in addition to existing budgetary costs.
