Major construction has commenced on the East Harbour Transit Hub in Toronto’s east end, which will provide a new interchange connecting GO Transit services with the future Ontario Line.
The East Harbour Transit Hub will link the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines with the Ontario Line. This integration is expected to help ease congestion at Union Station, particularly during peak periods. Projections suggest the new interchange could reduce passenger volumes at Union by up to 14,000 people during the morning rush.
The hub will also provide direct rail access to locations such as Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Stouffville, Markham, Unionville, Mississauga, Oakville, and Hamilton.

During peak travel periods, trains are expected to arrive at the station as frequently as every five minutes. The hub is anticipated to accommodate up to 100,000 riders daily, including those using the Ontario Line.
The station will include a range of amenities aimed at improving the passenger experience and supporting active travel options. These include:
- A central concourse allowing easy transfers between transit services
- An accessible passenger pick-up and drop-off zone
- Customer service facilities
- Secure and open-air bicycle parking
- Links to the future Broadview Avenue extension
Crews are currently focused on establishing the station’s structural foundations. Tasks include the installation of reinforced concrete caissons, pile drilling, and the construction of retaining walls. These works will support the station building and rail infrastructure. Once these elements are in place, the main station base will be formed with poured concrete.
Work on widening the Eastern Avenue bridge began in 2023 to make room for additional rail capacity. The upgraded bridge will eventually support six tracks: four for GO trains and two for Ontario Line services. With the first stage complete, train services have been shifted to the newly built section of the bridge while construction progresses on the remaining half.
The East Harbour Transit Hub forms part of the broader GO Expansion programme and is being delivered in partnership between the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, the City of Toronto, and Metrolinx. The construction contract for the station was awarded in March 2025.
The project is also part of a larger 38-acre Transit-Oriented Community, which will feature new housing and commercial space designed to support increased use of public transport.
