This summer, children and young adults aged 24 and under can benefit from free or discounted VIA Rail travel across Canada thanks to the Canada Strong Pass.
This initiative was promised by the Liberal Party’s Manifesto in the lead up to the 2025 general election, which saw the party, led by Mark Carney, retain power. The Pass is aimed at encouraging domestic tourism and cultural appreciation among Canadians.

It enables children and youth aged 17 and under to travel for free in Economy class if accompanied by an adult on all VIA Rail routes across Canada. The required discount code for this offer is: CANADAFAM.
In addition, adults aged 18 to 24 can save 25% on all Economy fares with the discount code CANADA1824.
Tickets can be booked online here, and ID will be required on board to confirm eligibility.
The offer is valid on journeys between 20 June 20 and 2 September 2025.
VIA Rail is also offering refunds for passengers who have previously booked trips that now qualify for the offer. The refund request form can be found here.
This initiative complements other travel and tourism-related measures announced as part of the Canada Strong Pass, including free access to national museums and galleries for under-18s and reduced camping fees in national parks.
