Amtrak has unveiled its brand-new Freedom250 NextGen Acela train.
Revealed during a ceremony attended by Amtrak Vice President of Government Affairs & Corporate Communications Ken Altman, US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, FRA Administrator David Fink, Amtrak Board Member Joel Szabat, and other leaders in Washington, DC; the train departed on a journey shortly after its unveiling, carrying a class of children for a field trip to visit iconic American landmarks.
The train’s design draws inspiration from the US Department of Transportation’s Freedom 250 campaign, which aims to highlight the nation’s founding ideals whilst looking to the future of transportation.
Designed and built by Alstom in the United States, the NextGen Acela features a top speed of 160 mph, and will begin operating a regular service along the Northeast Corridor, connecting Washington, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, and other destinations.
Amtrak will expand the celebration across the nation with the deployment of decals featuring the America250, Freedom250 and DOT250 logos on 20 additional ALC-42 and ACS-64 locomotives.
