Amtrak has removed several Horizon rail cars from service following routine inspections that identified corrosion.

The decision was made in collaboration with the manufacturer, Alstom, after further detailed assessments revealed additional areas of concern.

This funding will assist Amtrak's mission to reinstate mothballed services
Amtrak’s Borealis service

The Horizon rail cars were originally manufactured by Bombardier Transportation and entered Amtrak service in 1989.

This development is impacting multiple Amtrak routes: Downeaster, Hiawatha, Borealis and Amtrak Cascades.

Adjustments to service vary, with some trains operating with fewer cars and others relying on substitute bus transportation until a long-term plan is established.

Passengers are advised to check updated arrival and departure information on Amtrak.com, the Amtrak mobile app, or by contacting Amtrak Customer Care at 1-877-231-9448 via text or phone.
