Amtrak is progressing a wide-ranging programme of infrastructure improvements across the United States. A publicly available, regularly updated map outlines its planned and active projects, offering transparency and insight into the modernisation efforts.
These projects form part of Amtrak’s broader ambition to become a modern and efficient intercity passenger rail operator. With support from federal investment and collaboration with private sector partners, Amtrak is undertaking work on new bridges, tunnels, stations, and train fleets.

This investment aims to increase capacity, reduce travel times, improve safety, and deliver enhanced reliability for passengers.
The network upgrades will benefit communities across more than 500 cities, towns, and rural areas, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting long-term economic growth.
To do so efficiently, Amtrak has also positioned itself as a delivery agent for large-scale construction. By developing in-house project management and engineering capabilities, it seeks to ensure consistent quality and timely completion of assets.
These infrastructure projects are key to meeting rising demand for rail travel across the US and are expected to play a central role in the country’s shift towards more sustainable and accessible transport options.
