Alstom and its local joint venture, Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co. Ltd. (SATEE), have been awarded a 21 million contract by Nanjing Metro Group to provide traction systems and associated services to Line 12 of the Nanjing Metro in China. The Line 12 is expected to enter commercial operations by the end of 2015.

Alstom and SATEE will provide traction systems equipped with their state-of-the-art technology, Optonix, for 144 metro cars. Optonix is specially designed and developed by Alstom for the Chinese metro market.

The system features a lightweight and compact design, leading to high performance train operations. SATEE will provide the propulsion inverter, auxiliary convertor, brake resistor, master controller and traction motor with key components provided by Alstom. Nanjing Metro Line 12, also known as Ninghe Intercity Rail Line, is about 36 kilometers long and includes 19 stations. It will connect the city of Nanjing to Hexian County in neighbouring Anhui Province.

Alstom Play Bigger Role in Chinese Metro

With the strong engineering and manufacturing capabilities of our SATEE JV Traction site, Alstom will continue to play an important role in the booming Chinese metro market. Our successful cooperation with Nanjing Metro dates back more than a decade and since then Alstom has been a key contributor to Nanjings sustainable urban development, said Dominique Pouliquen, Senior Vice President of Alstom Transport Asia Pacific.

Involved in seven out of nine lines of Nanjing Metro2, Alstom is making an important contribution to the massive expansion of Nanjings metro network. On 1 July 2014, both Nanjing Metro Line 10 and the citys airport link, equipped with Alstom traction systems, successfully entered commercial operation.
