Alstom to Overhaul 25 Electric Traxx Locomotives for MÁV-START

Alstom has signed a contract with Hungarian MÁV-Vagon worth 3 million EUR for the overhaul of the bogie frames of 25 Traxx locomotives in the MÁV-START fleet.

The project’s expected runtime is three years and is intended to improve the quality and reliability of the rolling stock as well as increase the overall safety and efficiency of rail transport.

Both Alstom and MÁV-Vagon will participate in the overhaul: MÁV-Vagon will refurbish the bogies and dismantle and reassemble the gears; Alstom meanwhile will overhaul the engines and supply new axles and wheelsets.

MÁV-Vagon will perform its component of the contract at its headquarters in Szolnok, while Alstom will overhaul the engines at its site in Henningsdorf, Germany. The first shipment of engines to be renovated left Szolnok on 12 December. Following their overhaul, they are to be sent back in the first quarter of 2024 and be reinstalled in the renovated bogies.

The Traxx locomotives and the newest electric locomotives in the MÁV-START fleet and have travelled more than 60 million kilometres to date.
