Transport for London (TfL) has appointed AECOM to carry out a feasibility study examining the depot and sidings infrastructure needed to support the Bakerloo Line Upgrade.
This contract marks a further stage in preparations for introducing a new fleet of trains.
The study will assess infrastructure requirements at Stonebridge Park Depot, the Queen’s Park area and the London Road sidings at Elephant & Castle. The work forms part of the early planning and option development needed before new rolling stock can be introduced on the line.
The Bakerloo line is currently operated by trains that first entered service in 1972. TfL plans to replace the fleet as part of a wider programme intended to improve reliability and passenger capacity over the long term.
AECOM will act as lead consultant on the project, with support from Arcadis. The team will provide planning, systems engineering, rail engineering, environmental, digital delivery and Building Information Modelling (BIM) services, with the aim of producing a coordinated baseline design for the depot and sidings locations.

The appointment builds on previous collaboration between AECOM and Arcadis on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) Beckton Depot Upgrade, which forms part of the DLR Rolling Stock Replacement programme.
AECOM has also undertaken other London Underground projects, including design services with WW+P Architects for four proposed stations on the planned Bakerloo Line Extension into south-east London. In addition, the company was appointed lead designer for the first phase of TfL’s Elephant & Castle Station Capacity Upgrade.
The depot and sidings feasibility study is expected to inform future design and planning decisions as TfL continues developing the Bakerloo Line Upgrade programme.
