Tailor-Made Service for Track Construction and Maintenance Machines

As the number of running trains is increasing, construction windows for track maintenance are getting smaller and smaller. Track construction and maintenance machines play a crucial role for planning safety. Track construction and maintenance companies therefore will evaluate which tasks they can carry out themselves and for which tasks the requirements of standards compliance, special measuring equipment and qualified technical staff are too high to be done in-house.

Outsourcing will only work if one can rely on the service provider. This article gives an insight into the options for maintenance companies, either to use outsourced services on an ad hoc basis in addition to services supplied in-house or to outsource track construction and maintenance machines completely in order to ensure availability.

The Roots

The 20th century is still in its infancy when Karl Langkammerer takes over the “Georg Robel File Factory” and starts to manufacture hand-operated track construction machines. His success encourages him in his vision for track construction: Over the decades, “to robel” becomes synonymous with the secure screw connection between track and sleeper. The economic boom of the 1950s brings about a considerable change in size: Driven by the idea to optimize work on the track, ROBEL now also builds large track vehicles and rail loading trains and starts European wide distribution. In 1989 the company premises in Munich literally reach their limits - ROBEL starts to gradually move all its divisions to the railway town of Freilassing. Since 1999, the company fully operates in Freilassing under the name of ROBEL Bahnbaumaschinen GmbH."
